Instant Control
We have created over 100 combinator patches for you containing enchanting pads and soundscapes varying from very common OB like analog strings to experimental and haunting soundscapes. The majority of these patches are programmed for instant control using the buttons and knobs. Never forget to try your modulation wheel to see if there's something special hidden there.
Alive and Natural
Since we use the subtractor and malström a lot as well as bpm-synced effects, you can expect our patches to be lively and dynamic. Therein lies our major advantage when comparing this refill to the numerous, often overcompressed, sampled libraries and sample based VST instruments. Our pads and soundscapes will integrate more naturally in your mixes. Try it out!
Whether you are a new age artist or scoring a horror movie... if you really can't find what you are looking for in Mystic Dreampads vol1, you'll just have to wait for vol2!
Signature Samples
A part of the Mystic Dreampads samples are also embedded in our Signature Refill. We reprocessed them, looped them and started making brand new patches with them. These samples are recordings from home made NI Reaktor ensembles and instruments we built in Sync Modular by Dr. Sync. The quality of their oscilators and filters blow away the competition in the music software world.
Soundscape Generators
In the folder 'ambient matrixes' you can find some 'auto run' soundscapes. These combinators sound best when played at very low bpm rates. It all sounds very random but it isn't. If you find an interesting phrase at a certain spot (say bar #345), just isolate that spot between your left and right locators and export this 'loop' as an audio file. Then import it back into the NNXT, Dr. Rex (if you use Recycle) or some other tool. Before exporting you can use the knobs for extra control over your sound. The sample might not be as flexible as the original source would’ve been, but it will sound equally well. Don't forget to solo the combinator track you want to export. These 'ambient matrixes' can be used as excellent soundscape generators. For some extra fun, just open up the combinators and start tweaking the synthesizers and matrixes.

Notes to the update
MDP02 is our first product that gets an official and free update! We included new combinator patches as well as more samples. Further we included all demo tracks which had become a Sonic Flavours tradition shortly after MDP02 got its first release. We also checked and optimized all modules patches according to our latest standards. Mystic Dream Pads 02 has gotten bigger and better but kept its own original and genuine sound, class and charms!
Subtle and Refined
German ambient, chill out artist/composer Harald Karla aka Jonson built 142 combinator patches for this first Mystic Dream Pads Sequel. Karla loves subtle and refined sound layering as well as tiny details when it comes to reverb and delays. He's also a melody man. So there are some beautiful solo patches in there as well. The majority of all patches are programmed for instant control using the buttons and knobs.

Karla Samples
This 178 mb refill contains a lot of finetuned samples stemming from some of Karla's favorite synths. These samples put some extra flavours to the overall sound of this refill. There are some very nice bass synth samples and patches to complete the sonic spectre.
A Popular Tradition
If you like the wellknown layered sounds by Korg and Roland, you will love the Karla edition of Mystic Dream Pads which clearly takes this almost 20 years old sound tradition to a suprising new level. Character, manual playability, liveliness and emotion without overdoing it are the main keywords.
Creative use of Effects
-The Mclass equaliser appears to be a great and very subtle sounding filter for pads and soundscapes.
-It's great to have a combinator with 3 delays lined up where the delay times and pan knobs are modulated by the subtractor LFO.
-Karla's Super Wide Arena patch for the rv7000 is absolutely stunning. It can be found in a default rack setup RNS file.

New Sounds
Mystic Dreampads volume 3 takes of exactly there where the former two MDP versions stopped. It sounds and feels differently but we have managed to keep the same high quality standards. Again you will hear the same flexibility thanks to Reason's Subtractor and Malström.
More Samples
But still...... This time we used more samples coming from patches we build in the Kurzweil K2500, Novation Nova and Korg's good old Wavestation. We made sure that these sampler patches do sound as unstatic as possible by using long loops and through dynamic manipulation of the BV512 vocoder's formant shifting functions. Combining these samples with Reason's synthesizers did the trick for MDP3!
Inspired by Nature, Debussy and keane
Mystic Dreampads 3 is inspired by all good and bad moods Nature can evoke. It's also deeply inspired by the typically deep and warm sound atmosphere pallet of French composer Claude Debussy. Some patches are created as a result of listening to the great distorted textures one can find on "Under the Iron Sea" which is the second album by the British rockband Keane. With pollution and climate changes in the back of our heads these distorted pads will do great while scoring Discovery Channel type documentaries.

There are 10 subfolders carrying the following names: Dark, Distorted, FX like, Rhythmic (ReQuencers included), Sawy, Strings, Thin, Voice Oriented, Less Definable and Melodic. MDP3 contains 101 combinator patches.
Bargain Alert! Nature's Call Premium Edition:
Mystic Dreampads 3 has been simultaneously produced with our Nature's Call refill. Those two belong together and therefore MDP3 is embedded in Nature's Call. So if you own or if you are planning to purchase Nature's Call, you won't need to buy MDP3 seperately.
MP3 Demos
The mp3 demos that you will hear are all made using our Nature's Call refill. Like we said before, MDP3 is also embedded in this refill. This means of course that not everything that you hear comes from MDP3. However... every pad does come from MDP3 of course.

The combinator folder contains 6 subfolders named dark, distorted, electric keys, fx and experimental, light and rhythmic. There are 10 songfiles showing you lots of tricks and ideas. The modules folder contains the basic synth and NNXT patches we used for the combinator sounds.

Full credit to Thor
MDP05 has been fully dedicated to Thor and its sonic capabilities. Reminicense of old analog machines can't be denied but we wouldn't give Thor enough credit if we would put too much emphasis to this. Thor adds its very own distinctive character to our dream pads collection. And apart from being beautiful and unique this character is extremely versatile and rich.
Coherent atmosphere
Just like its 4 predecessors MDP05 is organically consistent which means that all patches mingle very well together in your mixes. This also means that if you need to give your musical project a coherent atmosphere, MDP05 might be the perfect sound source to achieve this.

Note to the mp3 demos
Every sound, every single note you hear in these demos is coming from Thor. Only in the last track named Sixth Sense you'll hear two additional rex loops, a cello sample, 1 violin phrase, a sampled gong and a sampled orchestral bass drum type of sound. These samples are not included in MDP05, you can find those in Hip Hop Flavours which will be released somewhere in December 2007.

The Story Continues
Ambient and electronic composers! This one's made for you. The main themes for this refill are dreams, space atmos, analog sound sculpturing and going back to the early age of sampling when Fairlight, Emulator and Synclavier were considered as being the ultimate magic music machines. Music for Airports by Brian Eno was only recent history. Wizards like Vangelis, Jarre, Schulze, Tangerine Dream and Todd Rundgren experienced a new era in their musical careers.
Vintage Sampling Techniques
Back in 1986 our young producer Harding got himself the Emulator 2. No more than 17.6 seconds were available for sampling. Back then this was Walhalla! This funny, warm and characterfull kind of formant shifting quality these pre-historical samplers had became sonic archetypes that set out the pace of the electronic sound of the eighties. Inspired by the charming impossibilities of these flagships we started working on the refill. We sampled lots of hardware synths and we even ripped some sounds from other MDP refills. And in most cases we sampled only one note! No multilayering hypersampling tricks. The sounding results can be heard on the demos on this page.
2-Track Archives
We have added about 40 samples coming from our 2-Track Archives refill. These samples are taken from original, analog master tapes and sound deliciously vintage. Just open up one of our monotones combinators, then open the NNXT editor, select the sample and exchange it with one of these 2-Track Archive samples by using the sample browser. This is a fun thing to do and it's great to come to surprising ambient textures. Don't forget to down pitch the samples at least one octave!

Malström completes the palette
Reason's Malström perfectly completes the overall sound character of MDP06. All its patches are designed to be used stand alone without effects. Spaciousness can also be achieved by proper handling of your envelopes and making use of the stereo spread knob the Malström has. Using these patches in combination with our combinators will bring contrast and depth into your arrangements.
Some notes on the RNS demos
In the refill you'll find 28 RNS files showing you how we have used MDP06 to get to the music you can hear on this page. We often get emails stating that our demos are very usefull in many ways so we have provided you with lots of them this time. In the short demos folder you'll find many interesting single patch improvisations that were made while crafting our sound palettes. Please check the mp3 track named Delta State which can be found at the bottom of the list in our mp3 player. it's a compilation of 7 small compositions showing off the stand alone qualities of most of our patches which also makes MDP06 a great refill for live performers.

Musical Atmospheres for a colourful but soundless world
To get inspiration for this seventh part of our MDP-series we watched lots of old James Bond movies as well as the beautiful documentaries by Jacques-Yves Cousteau. It was the breathtaking atmosphere of underwater scenes we were mainly heading for. The Malström was our only supplier of sound with which we sculptured a sonic background for this silent world.
Sweet with a Bite
Malström has been praised many times but as far as we know this is the first commercial refill ever that has been fully dedicated to its wicked charms and countless possibilities. Its sound character perfectly matches our ambition to give sound to the silence of the oceans. Most sounds are constantly on the move and full of life.... Never a dull moment: Depth, Clarity, a little Raw and Sweet with a Bite!
Musical Instrument
Malström is not just a soft synth but it's a musical instrument which is capable to produce or reproduce just everything you wish for. Apart from pads you'll find in this refill great drums and percussion sounds, guitars and ethnic string instruments, soundscapes and beautiful leads. The modulation wheel and velocity playing are very important aspects to bring the patches come to life. We always are focussed on these things while designing sounds but this time we had to give it some extra attention since this is the exact thing where Malström excells compared to other instruments.
Demo tracks and demo refill
All demotracks are composed and performed by Greg, the guy who mostly answers all emails at Sonic Flavours. It has become a complete 40+ minutes album so sit back and relax while realizing that MDP07 is all about what the Malström can do to get to beautiful atmos. From the download section at our home page you can download a demo refill which includes all demos in RPS-format for further study.
Mystic Dream Pads 08 - The Magic Chicken is for Reason 4 and higher.
MDP08-The Magic Chicken delivers beautifully sounding pads and synths for all kinds of styles varying from trance, dub to jazz, electronic music, ambient and filmscoring. While creating this refill we didn't think about those styles though. We were just making the music that belongs to this season and saved the patches into this refill.
Subtractor sounds only
Sometimes it just needs to sound nice and juicy. Or kinda old, retro, not too big, not too fat. And let's not call it analog, since it isn't. Lo-fi and med-fi always get sampled. They hardly ever get reproduced preserving full control over every single detail. One needs a synthesizer like the Subtractor to do so. So Mystic Dream Pads #8 is all about the Sub with its undeniably unique sounding character. It will help you find some golden eggs.
Inspired by
Pink Floyd era 1972-1975, Genesis era 1970-1973, Vangelis, Mike Oldfield, Jan Hammer and a little Tangerine Dream. The inspiration was pure musical and atmosphere wise, don't expect emulations of their sound palets. We've already done that (our refills Analog Signature and Analog Seventies). This time our ambition was to add something to these guys' palets as if they owned a PC and a copy of Reason back then. They already had Moogs, Arps, Hammonds, CS80's, Jupiters and Mellotrons but no Subtractor (yet).
Made for you
Only a small part of our customers are into seventies music. Where the inspiration for this refill came from shouldn't matter at all. The question that matters is how can inspire this refill you for whatever musical mission you are on? Whether you are into dance, ambient, hip hop or whatever. The Magic Chicken should always be checked out since it will add an unique character and lots of atmosphere to your music.
